Mailing to Saba

February 23rd, 2007 · No Comments · Saba

Mailing to Saba is an exercise in patience for me. I had no idea it takes a rocket scientist to figure out the location of an island and to actually deliver an envelope to said island.

I mailed our apartment deposit via FedEx International Priority on Tuesday, February 20th. According to them, it should’ve arrived on Saba by the 22nd at the latest. I made sure they knew which island this was going to because I’d heard many horror stories about packages going to the Netherlands or to some neighboring island. I thought I made it pretty clear.

The next day I got a call from their Puerto Rico office, asking me if they should send this to Anguilla or to St. John’s in the US Virgin Islands. I’m sorry, what? Since when are the US Virgin Islands and the Netherlands Antilles interchangeable? By the end of the call it seemed like the FedEx employee understood how she had to route the envelope.

Imagine my surprise when two days later I call FedEx and I’m told that the envelope’s been sent to Antigua. :O As of february 23rd the envelope has still not been delivered and I imagine it will take a while longer. Wonderful.
